Château Gassier enjoys a privileged location at the foot of the majestic Sainte-Victoire mountain, right in the heart of the Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire appellation. The estate covers 40 hectares of organically farmed vineyards, benefiting from a remarkable setting in the upper Arc valley. The vineyard enjoys natural protection: Sainte-Victoire shields it to the north, the Regagnas massif surrounds it to the south, and the Aurélien hills rise to the east. This exceptional setting, a true natural haven, offers ideal conditions for vine growing.

A fascinating history

The history of Château Gassier is closely tied to that of a family of passionate winegrowers. Acquired in 1982 by the Gassier family, the estate embodies the passion of six generations of artisan winemakers. Since 2004, the distinguished family has partnered with a trusted ally by becoming part of Advini. Today, Georges Gassier and his son Jean carry on the family expertise with dedication, both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

Under the direction of Olivier Souvelain from 2010, the estate committed fully to organic conversion, obtaining certification in 2016, reflecting a strong commitment to quality and environmental respect. The family legacy continues, as Georges Gassier will soon be joined by his son Jean, ensuring the longevity of this exceptional know-how.

Location and exposure

The vineyard enjoys an ideal position within the Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire appellation area. It is protected to the north by Sainte-Victoire, rising to over 1,000 meters, to the south by the Sainte-Baume massif, and to the east by the Aurélien hills. This site benefits from a unique microclimate in Provence, where the proximity of the Mediterranean tempers the climate, while continental influences encourage optimal ripening.

Geology

The estate’s soil is mainly composed of clay-limestone, interspersed with stony and sandy areas resulting from the erosion of Sainte-Victoire. This geological richness gives the wines remarkable complexity and typicity.

Climate

The Château Gassier vineyard benefits from a predominantly continental microclimate, subtly protected from sea winds by the surrounding relief. The Sainte-Victoire mountain acts as a true natural barrier, creating significant temperature variations that favor aromatic development and the freshness of the grapes.

Vineyard practices and sustainable commitment

Since 2016, the estate has been certified organic. Château Gassier primarily grows grenache, syrah, cinsault, and rolle (vermentino) grape varieties, with deep respect for biodiversity and the natural balance of the terroir. Harvesting, carried out exclusively at night, helps preserve grape freshness and prevents any risk of oxidation, thus ensuring optimal quality.

Château Gassier also stands out for its commitment to sustainable development: certification in regenerative agriculture, concrete actions to preserve soils and biodiversity, reduction of carbon footprint, and responsible water resource management.

Winemaking and aging

The wines of Château Gassier are the result of artisanal expertise combined with a creative and innovative approach. The rosés are produced by direct pressing and cold settling, then vinified using various methods (concrete tanks, wooden barrels, demi-muids), depending on the cuvée, to reveal the full subtlety of each terroir.

This Côtes de Provence, a blend of grenache, cinsault, syrah, and vermentino, reveals aromas of peach, pear, and citrus on the nose. The palate charms with its balance between roundness and freshness, finishing with a lively and persistent finish, characteristic of fresh and elegant rosés from Provence.

Le Pas du Moine in rosé and white: freshness as a hallmark

Le Pas du Moine Rosé, the estate’s emblematic cuvée, is crafted in the Château’s historic concrete tanks. This wine captivates with its freshness and the precision of its bouquet, dominated by persistent notes of citrus and exotic fruits. Its solid structure supports a long, elegant, and flavorful finish.

Le Pas du Moine Blanc, made from a blend of vermentino and ugni blanc, reveals all the freshness and minerality of its exceptional terroir. It displays aromas of citrus and white fruits, carried by a fine mineral tension that extends the tasting experience.

Cuvée 946, a superb gastronomic rosé

Cuvée 946, an exceptional rosé produced from just 4.5 hectares (syrah, grenache, rolle), pays tribute to the Croix de Provence, from which it takes its name based on the altitude of the western peak where it stands. Its meticulous vinification includes partial aging in demi-muids. This rare cuvée is characterized by a pale color, a complex nose combining red fruits and candied citrus, and a full, long palate blending freshness, delicate vanilla notes, and silky tannins. This wine has excellent aging potential, estimated at 5 years.
