Description
A fine Tokaj wine, fresh, powerful and very structured
The estate
Oremus is one of those estates which, by merging with the illustrious Spanish estate Vega Sicilia, have embraced and enhanced its philosophy. Thus, in this prestigious Hungarian vineyard, a quest is constantly under way: for excellence, harmony with nature, and rigor. The prestige of this estate dates back to the 1630s, when Maté Szepsi Lacko made the first "Tokaj wine with tears" from the grapes grown in the Oremus vineyard. He gifted it to the wife of the Prince of Transylvania, Princess Susana Lorántffy, to thank her the kindness she had shown the people of Tokaj. A century later, Oremus has already established itself as one of the world's most renowned estates.
The vineyard
The Oremus estate watches over a 115-hectare vineyard spread over steep hills, whose different sun exposures enable the local grape varieties (Furmint, Harslevelü, Zéta and Sárgamuskotály) to reach optimum levels of ripeness.
The wine
Furmint Dry Mandolás 2019 by Oremus stems from a vineyard that is situated on a perfect hill composed of volcanic rock, in an enclave that was once surrounded by almond trees, or "mandula" in Hungarian, hence the wine’s name. The 25-year-old vines are rooted in a silty soil that thinly covers a gravelly and clayey subsoil.
Vinification and aging
Hand-picking leads to the selection of the best grapes of this Furmint grape variety. A delicate and soft pressing to obtain a highly-dense must. Fermentation takes place in new Hungarian barrels (50%) and stainless steel tanks (50%). The wine is aged for three months with weekly stirring of the lees, and then left for the following three months without any intervention.
The blend
Furmint (100%).
The tasting
Furmint Dry Mandolás 2019 is a young and fruity wine that showcases a great freshness. However, it is also characterized by its powerful expression on the palate, its acidity and its incredible structure which offers beautifully balanced nuances.
Food and wine pairing
This Tokaj wine will complement fish cooked in foil, served with fresh pasta coated with a tomato sauce. It will also pair beautifully with soft cheeses.
Service
For an optimal tasting experience, serve at 10°C.
Storage
A real pleasure on the palate, this Furmint Dry Mandolás 2019 can be kept in the cellar until 2029, enabling it to reveal its full range of aromas.
