Moulin-a-Vent Wines : Key Points

The prestigious Beaujolais appellation of Moulin-À-Vent takes its name from an ancient windmill that stands on the border of the Rhône and Saône-et-Loire departments, on a hill in Romanèche-Thorins. The oldest of the Beaujolais appellations d'origine contrôlée can boast of producing a wine nicknamed the "Seigneur des Beaujolais" (lord of Beaujolais). Before obtaining AOC certification in 1936, the wines of Moulin-À-Vent had already been renowned since the 19th century, being classified in the same way as the great wines of Burgundy.

The 670 hectares of vines of the Moulin-à-Vent appellation are spread across the green hillsides of Romanèche-Thorins and Chénas. The vines benefit from a temperate climate. The continental influence is accentuated by winds coming from the north, which are beneficial in summer and autumn but can bring late frosts in spring.

The granitic soils of Moulin-à-Vent rest on subsoils rich in manganese, influencing the character of this prestigious Beaujolais red wine.

In this vineyard, Gamay is king. It produces wines with a purplish red colour, structured and fleshy. These wines are very fine with a flowery bouquet evolving on notes of spices. A wine for laying down par excellence, it evolves gracefully over the 10 years following its vintage date.
