The wines by Maison Chapoutier are renowned by the finest connoisseurs from all around the world for their refinement and high quality. A man of many talents, Michel Chapoutier holds the world record for 100/100 scores awarded by the American critic, Robert Parker. Mathilde, Michel Chapoutier's daughter, has taken over the running of this iconic house, which has over 350 hectares of vineyards in the most prestigious appellations of the northern and southern Rhone Valley region.
M. Chapoutier’s Les Greffieux, named after the first owner of the plot, is a monovarietal Ermitage wine. The plot is located at the foot of the Hermitage hill and is composed of alluvial deposits with a glacial terrace. This vineyard is unique in that its subsoil is made up of deep clay, which gives the wine a fine expression and rich aromas, as well as rolled pebbles, which release heat and provide concentration and structure.
2021 is a vintage in which the shifting weather conditions between the northern and southern parts of the Rhone Valley revealed the nuances and richness of each of these fine terroirs. This vintage exudes an alluring finesse and its aromatic palette harmoniously blends complexity and elegance.
The nose combines floral (peony, bramble leaves) and fruity (blackcurrant) fragrances.
Elegant and fresh, the palate is seductive with its silky feel and intense expression of wild berries. The finish is persistent and reveals delicious smoky notes.
