Description
A Pauillac Second Wine with a seductive finesse and complexity
The estate
A 2nd Classified Growth of 1855 belonging to the elite group of Bordeaux Grands Crus, Château Pichon Baron is one of the greatest estates of the Pauillac appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
A veritable mosaic of terroirs and superbly located near the Gironde estuary, the Pichon Baron vineyard extends over 73 hectares of vines planted in Médoc gravels soils with perfect drainage. The oldest vines of the property are used in the production of this emblematic Pauillac wine.
The wine
Produced since the 2012 vintage, Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is the Second Wine of Château Pichon Baron.
The vintage
A cold and rainy winter preceded a wet spring. The flowering was homogeneous. Following a hot, dry summer, optimal conditions up to the harvest ensured that the grapes reached a perfect ripeness level.
Vinification and ageing
Temperature-controlled vinification. Maceration for 19 to 27 days. Aged for 18 months in barrels (60% new, 40% second-fill barrels).
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (52%)
Merlot (48%).
