Description

A refined and complex Minervois wine

The estate

Owner of Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, the JM Cazes family acquired Domaine de L'Ostal in 2002.

Located between Carcassonne and Narbonne, this estate reigns over a 60-hectare vineyard. The Cazes family has carried out a major restructuring of the vineyard in order to produce fine Languedoc wines.

The Domaine de l'Ostal wines are renowned for their harmonious marriage between vivacity, aromatic richness and freshness.

The vineyard

This Mourvèdre 2017 by Domaine de l'Ostal is a Minervois wine made from parcels of Mourvèdre planted in 4 locations: Soulairol, La Touge, Gieules and Estibals.

The vintage

A particularly rainy winter preceded a spring punctuated by frosts, which were rapidly offset by mild temperatures and low rainfall. The summer heat did not affect the vineyard thanks to sufficient water reserves. The fruit of a harvest whose quality is on a par with its exceptional yields, the Mourvèdre grapes possess a seductive aromatic potential. This limited edition wine reflects the intense expression of this Mediterranean grape variety following a year marked by shifting weather conditions.

Vinification and ageing

Separate, parcel-based vinification to develop the aromatic expression and refine the tannic structure. Aged for 12 months in barrels.

Domaine de l'Ostal’s Mourvèdre 2017: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Nose
The intense and well-balanced nose blends spicy fragrances (pepper, cloves) with fruity (black cherry) and chocolate notes.

Palate
The supple palate reveals delicate tannins. The ageing in wood gives this Languedoc red wine a pleasant structure and delicacy.
