Cornas is an appellation of the Rhone Valley created in 1938 and extending over a total area of 131 hectares, exclusively within the commune of Cornas. The Cornas appellation produces only red Syrah wines, the only grape variety authorized here. The vines are planted on steep slopes consisting of decomposed granite, clay sand (gores), limestone and silt. They enjoy a Mediterranean climate. Dark red in color, these wines develop fragrances of black fruits that evolve into spices and licorice as the wines age, while the tannins tend to become rounder. On the palate, the wines of the Cornas appellation express chocolate flavors in their youth, before revealing touches of more animal, pepper and truffle over time.
