Description
An expressive and refined Pomerol wine
The estate
Owned by the Bourotte-Audy family, the Clos du Clocher estate is located in the heart of the Pomerol plateau. Like a “marvelous garden” surrounded by low walls, Clos du Clocher represents an essential reference for the great wines of Pomerol, known for its assertive and unique style.
The vineyard
The Clos du Clocher vineyard covers 5.18 hectares of vines aged 42 years on average. Located on the Pomerol plateau, across from the church, the vineyard enjoys an exceptional setting. The Clos du Clocher vines give rise to fine Pomerol wines and are planted in clay-loam soils resting on blue clay and deep gravel subsoils.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand and then transported to the vat room in crates to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The vinification is carried out in small, thermoregulated stainless steel and cement vats and in barrels (10% of the harvest is fully vinified). The vinification is accompanied by manual pumping over and punching of the cap. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in barrels. Aged for 18 months in barrels (55% new, 30% second-fill barrels), in small vats (10%) and in wineglobes (5%).
The blend
Clos du Clocher 2021 comprises a blend of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%).
