Vinum

Attractive, unobtrusive barrique notes; on the palate very harmonious, smooth, fruity, elegant, with good length and remarkably clean craftsmanship; classy: can age a bit.

A real success and an attractive wine, the 2022 Lune d'Or exhibits aromas of verbena, lemon oil, anise and jasmine, followed by a moderately weighted, juicy and fresh palate with bright acids and a saline, mouthwatering finish. It's a blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon.

An intriguing version, with a slight waxy edge to its mix of white peach, salted butter, green almond and bergamot notes. The focused finish shows a subtle hint of bitter blanched almond. Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2027. 200 cases made.

Decanter

Supple and juicy, with a lovely kick of lemon, orange and grapefruit, showing focus and a sense of style. There’s an easy-drinking feel to this, bright and straight, unctuous on the mid-palate which is so appetising, and it feels well crafted with bite, tang, fruit and acidity. Great.

The pineapple, honey and peach character is so attractive. Medium-bodied, crunchy and deliciously fruity with tension and focus. Creamy, phenolic texture. There’s something exotic about this. Drink or hold.

Pears, burnt sugar, honeysuckle, lemon curd, pineapple, vanilla, and green apple notes are everywhere here, in the aromatics and in the crisp, lemon curd, fresh yellow-citrus finish. The wine blends 70% Semillon with 30% Sauvignon Blanc. Drink from 2025–2034.

Ripe melon, honeyed mint, flowers, and chalky minerality all shine in the 2022 Clos Des Lunes Lune D'Or Blanc, another gorgeous example of this cuvée that's medium to full-bodied, has a concentrated, elegant mouthfeel, remarkable purity, and a great finish. It might be the finest vintage I've tasted of this cuvée, and it’s a serious white that’s going to age gracefully. Based on 70% Semillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, it will benefit from a year or two of bottle age and evolve nicely over the following decade.

Pale yellow color. Intense, delicate nose with ripe fruit. Pure. Rich, flavorful, and melting palate, with lasting flavor. Good length.

Description

A lively and structured Bordeaux dry white wine

The estate

Clos des Lunes traces its history from an ambitious venture starting in 2011 with an observation and a challenge: to make a legendary dry white wine on the exceptional Sauternes terroir. This is the challenge taken up by the emblematic Olivier Bernard and his family, owners of Domaine de Chevalier in Léognan, who, with passion and energy, have worked to make Clos des Lunes one of the greatest references for dry white Bordeaux wines on this sweet wines territory.

The wine

Prestigious and rare, the Clos des Lunes "Lune d'Or" is the result of Olivier Bernard's ambition to produce one of the greatest wines in the world. Made from a meticulous manual selection of grapes from very old vines, this Bordeaux Dry White wine with great ageing potential is the ultimate expression of purity and complexity.

Winemaking and ageing

Manual harvest in crates by successive selections according to ripeness. Slow pneumatic pressing. No destemming or maceration. Natural settling by gravity in a cold room with regular stirring of the lees. The wine is aged for 12 to 15 months in barrels.

Blend

Sémillon (70%)
Sauvignon Blanc (30%).
