L'Oratoire des Papes : Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2023

Generous yet fresh, with a lovely mix of chamomile, green plum and zesty lime peel on a creamy, ripe palate. An herbal thread weaves through, with salty mineral notes lining the fleshy finish, marked by sweet and savory spices. Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne and Bourboulenc. Exotic tropical fruit, toasted bread, honeysuckle, and some salty, cured-meat-like nuances all emerge from the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc, a medium-bodied, balanced, nicely textured white that has lots to love. It’s going to shine on the dinner table and should have at least 3–5 years of longevity. This cuvée comes entirely from limestone soils and is equal parts Clairette Rose, Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, and Roussanne, raised in 20% new barrels with the balance in concrete tanks.

Beautiful aromatics of Meyer lemon, Bosc pear, and white peach come through clean and precise. The palate is textured and mouthfilling, with bright acidity that gently clings to a stony midpalate. Citrus and pear trail long through the finish. This wine is delicious and approachable now.
