James Suckling

Attractive aromas of fresh redcurrants, red berries and crushed red flowers here. The palate has a soft, easy feel with light, fine and supple tannins on offer. Drink or hold.

Weinwisser

Garnet-ruby with a violet rim. Warm forest-berry bouquet, backed by strawberries and lingonberry purée. On the firm palate, it shows crisp notes and a slightly rough-edged texture. In a medium-length finish, it charms with plenty of blue berries and dried cherry skins. Well made!

René Gabriel

Kunz barrel sample 18: red-berry, medium-bodied bouquet, red berries, wood, mocha. A firm, slender palate with sandy tannins, light aromatics, sweet fruit, and a medium finish.

Description

The structure and elegance of a great red wine from Saint-Estephe

A prestigious property of the famous Saint-Estephe appellation in the Medoc, the Chateau Tour de Pez confirms its rank among the best Crus Bourgeois estates of the Right Bank of the Bordeaux region.

With a vineyard of 30 hectares in production, located on the magnificent terroir of Graves Girondines and clay-limestone marl soils, Chateau Tour de Pez is one of the more peculiar properties of the Medoc due to the proportion of varietals planted. Thethe emblematic red grape of the Left Bank, Cabernet Sauvignon represents 40% of the vineyard's surface, and Merlot accounts for 55%, supplemented by 5% of Petit Verdot. The vineyard is densely planted (from 8,500 to 10,000 vines / ha) and extreme care is taken to treat the vine in a way that respects the environment. The property does not use chemical pesticides and the vines are green-pruned in order to allow the wines of Chateau Tour de Pez to stand out as some of the most respected Crus Bourgeois.

Distinguished as a Grand Cru Classe, the Chateau Tour de Pez 2017 expresses the profile of its vintage in the typical style and charm of the Saint-Estephe appellation. Matured in French Allier oak barrels (30% which are new) for 14 months, the Chateau Tour de Pez 2017 offers an aromatic freshness of fruit on the nose, while the palate opens with an elegant attack that highlights the finesse of the tannins and also maintains the structure typical of the wines of Saint-Estephe. A great red wine made to be kept until it reaches its peak between 2028 and 2035.
