Chateau Simard 2016

Herbal, fruity, of medium body, yet very refreshing.

This is a lovely wine from the Alain Vauthier stable. Rich, deep and full of fleshy, well-expressed fragrant fruit, this is a great wine to follow among the less expensive St-Émilions. Great winemaking. 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc with a yield of 40 hl/ha.

Beautiful spice and red plums with red cherries and a silky, velvety edge on the palate that delivers a very assertive, succulent array of bright, red-fruit flavor. A blend of 75 percent merlot and 25 percent cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

The 2016 Simard is bold, juicy and delicious. Sweet tobacco, leather, cedar, smoke and dried herbs add lovely aromatic nuance to this expressive, mid-weight Saint-Émilion. Deep and fleshy, the 2016 will drink well right out of the gate.

With a touch of spice, fresh herbs, thyme, and plums on the nose, you also find ripe, fresh cherry and plums with a hint of bottle chocolate on the fresh finish. You can drink this now, or age it for a few years. The wine is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc.

Sweet and ripe nose as well, red fruit, another Burgundian example with dry spices, ginger, full-bodied and generous with balanced proportions.

From the team at Ausone, the 2016 Château Simard is made from 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, raised in just 30% new French oak. It’s a medium-bodied, classic, nicely balanced Saint-Emilion that has loads of upfront charm. Offering notes of dark fruits and tobacco, it has an easygoing, rounded texture and is geared for drinking over the coming decade or so. It’s a delicious, satisfying effort.

A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Simard is deep garnet-purple in color. It bursts with vibrant notes of kirsch, blackberry pie, and redcurrant jelly, followed by suggestions of pencil shavings, dusty soil, dried herbs, and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has tight-knit black and red berry layers with a firm texture of ripe, rounded tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing with a skip in its step.

Garnet red with violet highlights. What an inviting bouquet. Not only for its intensity, but also for its freshness and complexity. On the palate, the wine is compact, mouth‑filling and endowed with healthy, fine‑grained tannins, in symbiosis with the acidic structure. The latter gives the wine real verve and ideally supports the aromatic intensity. A characterful wine, vinified with great skill. A thousand bravos!

Dark, intense, purple color. Fine, fruity nose. Smooth, tender, flavorful, and airy palate, with good taste and medium length.

This juicy, soft wine with lots of acidity and bright black-currant flavors is made for early drinking. Soft tannins are cushioned by fruitiness. Drink this fresh wine from 2021.
