Description

The structure and expression of a Moulis wine

The property
Château Poujeaux, located in Moulis-en-Médoc, is a historic vineyard whose origins date back to the 16th century. The estate has been managed since 2008 by the Cuvelier family, with Matthieu Cuvelier at its head. The unique terroir, composed of gravel on limestone, favors a classic planting of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot. Since 2008, the oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt has been bringing his expertise, enhancing the reputation of this prestigious Bordeaux cru.

The vineyard
Located on the ridge of Grand Poujeaux within the Moulis appellation, the vineyard extends over 72 hectares on Günz gravel soils, an exceptional terroir that gives the wine its characteristic structure and minerality. The vines are on average 30 years old.

Vinification and aging
Fermentation in whole berries in 51 stainless steel, wood and concrete vats. The extraction of aromas and tannins is carried out by pumping over, followed by a maceration of 20 to 25 days. The aging continues for 12 months in barrels, of which 33% are new and 67% are one and two wines, allowing the wine to develop its complexity while preserving the fruit.

Blend
The blend of Château Poujeaux 2024 consists of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot and 15% petit verdot.
