    Description

A silky and elegant Moulis red wine

    The estate

It was in 2008 that the Cuvelier family, already owners of the Premier Grand Cru Classe of Saint-Émilion Clos Fourtet, acquired Château Poujeaux. Since then, this beautiful Médoc property has experienced a true renaissance. Managed by Mathieu Cuvelier and Christophe Labenne, with vinifications carried out under the watchful eye of oenologist-consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt, Château Poujeaux is today one of the finest references in the Moulis appellation on the Left Bank of Bordeaux.

    The vineyard

Château Poujeaux 2021 is a Moulis wine that stems from a a 72-hectare single vineyard, located in the north-eastern part of the appellation. The vines are on average 30 years old and benefit from an exceptional location on the Günzian gravel outcroppings. This great terroir is perfectly suited to the Médoc grape varieties. From this harmony between terroir and grape variety are born great wines typical of the Moulis appellation, offering a great density and elegance.

    The vintage

A mild, wet winter favoured an early budburst. This head start was slowed down by the particularly cool conditions of spring, a time marked by episodes of frost which affected the most exposed plots. The rainfall recorded during May, combined with a certain mildness, led to strong sanitary pressure until the end of July. Thereafter, the mild weather conditions in August and September were ideal and helped to refine the ripening process until the harvest.

    Vinification and ageing

Harvest from September 30th to October 14th. Vinification by plot. Fermentation of whole grapes in 51 temperature-controlled stainless steel, wood and concrete vats. Extraction by pumping over. Vatting for 20 to 25 days. Aged for 12 months in barrels (33% new and 67% second and third-fill wines).

    The blend

    Cabernet Sauvignon (55%)

    Merlot (40%)

    Petit Verdot (5%).
