The freshness of a sunny and structured red grand vin of Pomerol

In what was a great vintage for Bordeaux, Chateau Mazeyres has produced a beautiful 2018 Pomerol.

Located on the right bank of Bordeaux, Chateau Mazeyres has for centuries embodied the excellence of Pomerol. Since 1992, Antoine Moueix has presided over this historical reference of the Pomerol appellation. The 24.43-hectare vineyard is cultivated by means of organic and biodynamic agriculture, certified by Ecocert.

A hot and rainy year, 2018 was one of strong climatic contrasts. A wet winter was followed by a rainy and warm spring. The mildew pressure was therefore quite strong out in the Chateau Mazeyres vineyard. Nevertheless, the very nice summer that arrived in July favored an ideal ripening of the fruit, which presented a nice richness of polyphenols and a strong tannic potential, while also preserving a great aromatic freshness.

A blend of Merlot (66%), Cabernet Franc (29%) and Petit Verdot (5%), the Chateau Mazeyres 2018 was aged in new oak barrels (20%), barrels of one previous wine (45%), in vats and concrete eggs (35%).

Wine Advocate-Parker :
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Mazeyres (66% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot) offers up bright redcurrant jelly and kirsch scents over a core of preserved plums, blackberry pie and mincemeat plus a touch of woodsmoke. Full-bodied with a velvety texture supporting the generous black fruit preserves, it has loads of spicy sparks on the finish.
