Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Mazeyres 2012

Tasting

Color

The color shows a deep, brilliant ruby red hue.

Nose

The nose opens with elegant aromas of red and black fruit, accompanied by smoky notes characteristic of the gravelly terroir. Hints of truffle and spices complete this complex, airy bouquet.

Palate

The attack reveals a silky, velvety texture. The palate displays lovely roundness carried by ripe fruit, while the smoky notes linger delicately. The finish offers fine length with refined, well-integrated tannins.

Food and wine pairings

This Pomerol pairs perfectly with roasted or grilled red meats, as well as mushroom- and truffle-based dishes. It also matches beautifully with fine poultry such as duck, or with soft-ripened cheeses.

Serving and cellaring

Château Mazeyres 2012 can be enjoyed now through around 2028. It is best served at a temperature of 16-18°C.

An elegant Pomerol with velvety nuances from gravel and clay terroirs

The estate

The Château Mazeyres estate spans 25.5 hectares in the Pomerol appellation, surrounding an elegant manor house. Under the direction of Alain Moueix since 1992, the estate committed to an environmentally respectful approach as early as 2011-2012, obtaining organic farming certification in 2015 and then biodynamic certification in 2018, with membership in Biodyvin. The gravel and clay soils give the wines a signature velvety texture, enhanced by smoky and forest-floor nuances, the result of a holistic approach that favors finesse and freshness.

The vineyard

The Château Mazeyres vineyard rests on a complex terroir made up of clay gravel and clay sands typical of the Pomerol appellation. These distinctive soils bring structure and minerality to the wines, while encouraging the expression of Merlot, which thrives fully on these lands of Bordeaux’s Right Bank.

Winemaking and aging

Château Mazeyres 2012 benefited from careful aging in oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop aromatic complexity while preserving fruit expression and the finesse sought by the estate.
