Description
The precision and freshness of a white wine from Pessac-Leognan by Malartic-Lagraviere
The estate
Under the leadership of the Bonnie family, the majestic Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere has experienced a spectacular growth. This Grand Cru Classé of Graves enjoys an exceptional location, with its vineyard superbly situated on an outcropping of gravel. Home to state-of-the-art technical facilities, Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere shines bright within its appellation with white and red wines that stand out among the most beautiful of Pessac-Leognan.
The vineyard
The 73-hectare Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere vineyard extends over the Pessac-Leognan appellation. The Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere white 2019 comes from the 9 hectares planted in white in the dry, clayey gravel soils upon shell-limestone subsoils. The vineyard is managed by means of sustainable agriculture and has been certified for High Environmental Value since 2015.
The vintage
The mild conditions at the start of the season favored early bud burst. Spring was marked by cool temperatures and high humidity, and was followed by a month of March punctuated by episodes of frost. While the month of April was very hot, rainy days in May combined with 10 sunny days, allowing for a rapid and even flowering. Following the fruit set, heavy rains brought about significant mildew pressure in June. From mid-June, the weather was beautiful and dry, even scorching hot at times. Rain on August 11 was beneficial for the vineyard. The rigorous monitoring of the vines by the vineyard teams and the well-drained soils of the estate allowed for an optimal development of the vines despite these extreme conditions.
Vinification and aging
Harvested manually, the grapes were rigorously sorted before being subjected to a slow and totally inert pressing. Fermentation was carried out in barrels, as was the aging (65% new oak) for 12 to 14 months on fine lees with stirring.
The blend
The Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere white 2020 was made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (83%) and Semillon (17%).
The tasting
This Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere 2020 white seduces with its aromatic purity, precision and roundness.
