Description

An aromatic and delicate great Saint-Julien wine

The estate

With wines that achieve the feat, vintage after vintage, of reaching heights of excellence and elegance, Château Léoville Las Cases is today one of the most emblematic estates of the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation, on Bordeaux’s Left Bank.

The vineyard

A benchmark among Saint-Julien wines, Château Léoville Las Cases oversees a 55-hectare vineyard planted within the famous Clos de Léoville, the complexity of which constitutes a veritable mosaic of terroirs. Located near the Gironde, the vineyard benefits from the river's role as a thermal regulator, guaranteeing mild temperatures and providing a barrier against frost. Combined with the presence of gravelly soils from the Günz, resting on subsoils of a gravelly-sandy nature with more or less deep clays, the terroir of Château Léoville Las Cases brings together all the conditions to produce vintages with a legendary allure.

The vintage

The mild but wet spring conditions had an impact on the quality of the flowering, causing coulure and millerandage, particularly on the Merlot. While July and August were cool and not very sunny, September was hot and dry, ideal conditions to ensure optimal ripening of the grapes until the harvest.

Blend

Château Léoville Las Cases 2002 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (67%), Cabernet Franc (14%), Merlot (14%) and Petit Verdot (5%).
