Marks and reviews
With wines that achieve, vintage after vintage, greater heights of excellence and elegance, Chateau Leoville Las Cases is today one of the most iconic properties of the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation, located on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.
A benchmark among Saint-Julien wines, Chateau Leoville Las Cases watches over a 55-hectare vineyard which is planted within the famous Clos de Leoville, the complexity of which constitutes a veritable mosaic of terroirs. Located near the Gironde estuary, the vineyard benefits from the river's role as a thermal regulator, guaranteeing mild temperatures and providing a barrier against frost. Combined with the presence of gravelly soils from the Günz, resting on subsoils of a gravelly-sandy nature with more or less deep clays, the terroir of Chateau Leoville Las Cases brings together all the conditions necessary to produce legendary and alluring vintages.
Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases first produced in 2007. The Second Wine of Chateau Leoville Las Cases, Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases is vinified from parcels of vines located in the Clos Leoville Las Cases. Following in the footsteps of its two predecessors, Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases is vinified and aged with the same care as the other wines of the estate. With a higher proportion of Merlot in the blend, Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases is more accessible in its youth.
Marked by an early budburst, 2021 is also marked by a late grape harvest compared to recent vintages. The diligent and knowledgeable teams at the estate were able to assess the vineyard throughout the growing season. Despite the unstable weather conditions, the grapes harvested showcased a high quality and homogeneous maturity levels.
Merlot (57%), Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), and Cabernet Franc (3%).
Elegant and revealing a beautiful tension, this Second Wine from Saint-Julien reveals the seductive smoothness of the Merlot varietal and the beautiful freshness of the Cabernet grapes.
