Description

The smoothness and finesse of a fine Pomerol wine

The estate

Poised in the heart of the Pomerol plateau, on the right bank of Bordeaux, Château La Violette takes its name from the characteristic aromas emanating from the bouquet of its wines.

The vineyard

Château La Violette produces fine Pomerol wines and reigns over an exceptional 1.68-hectare vineyard, thats rests on the appellation’s plateau. The vines, 50 years old on average, are planted on a terroir made up of fine gravel soils.

The vintage

Although the winter began with cold and wet conditions, the more favourable and milder weather recorded from February 20th onwards favoured the early budding of the vines. The vineyard was affected by the springtime frosts. Subsequently, the cooler weather and rainfall in May slowed down vegetative development and led to significant sanitary pressure. Flowering was rapid despite coulure and millerandage in some sensitive plots. Although the weather was milder from July 17th, mildew pressure remained high. Dry and sunny, August allowed for a slow and gradual veraison period. The mildew pressure gave way to botrytis pressure during the harvest. Despite a drop in yields of around 30%, the rigour of the château's teams enabled them to harvest high-quality grapes.

Vinification and ageing

Manual destemming. Micro-vinification carried out exclusively in new barrels. Pre-fermentation maceration for 10 days. Malolactic fermentation in new barrels and ageing for 16 months.

The blend

Château La Violette 2021 is a 100% Merlot.
