Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Haut-Brion 2015
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep garnet red hue.
Nose
The nose reveals fruity fragrances (red and black fruits), spicy notes but also liquorice and clove as it breathes.
Palate
A broad and caressing attack precedes a generous palate combining flavours of ripe fruits and cocoa bean. Persistent and expressive, the finish seduces with its notes of mocha and coffee.
A complex and refined Premier Grand Cru Classé
The estate
The oldest of the Bordeaux Grands Crus, the Château Haut-Brion benefits from a rich heritage built over five centuries of history. Founded in 1533 by Jean de Pontac in the Graves region, the wine of Château Haut-Brion was quickly coveted and appreciated by the greatest monarchs of Europe. In 1663, Samuel Pepys, a member of the English Parliament, unknowingly contributed to the success of Château Haut-Brion through his diary, writing " And there, I drank a sort of French wine called Ho-Bryan which had a very particular good taste that I had never encountered... ". The legend was born. First Grand Cru Classé outside Médoc in 1855 and recognised as a Classified Growth in the Official Classification of Graves Wines in 1959, Château Haut-Brion continues to write the legend of the greatest wines of Bordeaux but also internationally by confirming, vintage after vintage, its exceptional consistency.
The vineyard
A true viticultural jewel of the A.O.C of Pessac-Léognan located in the heart of the Pessac agglomeration, Château Haut-Brion boasts an exceptional terroir on soils composed of multicoloured gravels, producing sumptuous, elegant, precise wines with incredible consistency from one vintage to another.
The vintage
Particularly hot and sunny, the year 2015 is marked notably by a long heatwave promoting excellent flowering. The rains recorded in August are ideal for ensuring good berry maturation. Harvested under very good conditions, the grapes are in excellent health, giving birth to a very great vintage.
Vinification and ageing
Ageing in oak barrels, 78% of which are new.
Blend
Merlot (50%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (42%)
Cabernet Franc (8%)
