The estate

A Fifth Growth in the Official Classification of 1855, Château Haut-Batailley is a benchmark of the Pauillac appellation. Its name derives from the word "bataille" (battle), in memory of the fighting said to have taken place on the estate at the end of the Hundred Years' War, in the 15th century.

Since 2017, Château Haut-Batailley has been run by the Cazes family, who continue the work begun by the Borie family in 1930 and uphold the style and quality of this essential Médoc growth, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.

The vineyard

A benchmark among the great wines of Pauillac, Château Haut-Batailley oversees an estate of around forty hectares, including 22 hectares of vines. With an average age of 35 years, this vineyard, located in the south of the appellation, rests on soils made up of Garonne gravel and clay.

The gift box

Available in limited quantity, this gift box brings together two Pauillac gems in a single wooden case: Château Haut-Batailley and its second wine, Haut-Batailley Verso 2017. This elegant, understated box stands out first for its opening, which can be done from either side, and also for the beauty of the bottles it holds.

The vintage

Marked by various weather challenges, 2017 put the Château Haut-Batailley vineyard to the test with water stress and heat. The estate was nevertheless spared from the disastrous frost at the end of April. The temperature swings at the end of August allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. 2017 reveals wines that are harmonious, well-balanced and remarkably refined.

The Château Haut-Batailley and Haut-Batailley Verso 2017 vintages

Château Haut-Batailley 2017

This blend of cabernet sauvignon (66%) and merlot (34%) is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new. Intense on the nose, it reveals lovely toasted notes brought by oak aging, while the palate shows superb texture.

Haut-Batailley Verso 2017

This blend of cabernet sauvignon (60%) and merlot (40%) is aged for 12 months in once-used barrels. The palate is forthright, opening onto rich, silky tannins.
