Description
Two chapters of the same Pauillac vintage combined in a limited edition case
The property
Ranked as a Fifth Grand Cru Classé in the Official Classification of 1855, the Chateau Haut-Batailley is a reference of the Pauillac appellation. Its name is derived from the word "battle", in memory of the fights that would have taken place on the estate at the end of the Hundred Years War, in the 15th century.
Since 2017, Chateau Haut-Batailley has been managed by the Cazes family who continues the work initiated by the Borie family since 1930 and perpetuates the style and quality of this essential cru of the Médoc, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.
The vineyard
A reference among the fine Pauillac wines, Chateau Haut-Batailley watches over a terroir of about forty hectares, including 22 hectares of vines. Averaging 35 years old, this vineyard located in the south of the appellation rests on soils composed of Garonne gravels and clay.
Unveiling a Limited-Edition leather bottle holder
Created by Maison de Grimm, a Bordeaux leather goods company whose history dates back to 1945, this refined bottle holder contains two bottles of the same vintage:
Chateau Haut-Batailley 2018
Fruit of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (59%) and Merlot (41%), this vintage offers an opulent palate endowed with great tannic richness and a superb concentration reminiscent of the merlot's imprint. The freshness of the cru highlights the distinctive character of the Cabernet Sauvignon, beautifully showcased by this sublime 2018 vintage.
Haut-Batailley Verso 2018
With a seductive purple color, this second wine made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (82%) and Merlot (18%) seduces with its nose endowed with a beautiful fruity, spicy and balsamic structure, as well as its generous palate with delicate tannins.
The vintage
2018 marks the birth of a particularly exceptional vintage for the Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac. A vintage of climatic contrasts, 2018 unfolded in two phases. After a particularly mild and wet spring, summer set in in July with radiant sunshine until October.
