The richesse of a red grand vin from Pauillac
2018 marked the birth of a particularly exceptional vintage for the Grand Cru Classe of Pauillac located on the left bank of Bordeaux, Chateau Haut-Batailley.
A vintage of severe climatic contrasts, 2018 took place in two phases. After a particularly mild and wet spring, summer settled in July, bringing plenty of sunshine that lasted until October. The beautiful climatic conditions of summer thus ended any mildew pressure to which the vineyard was subjected during the spring season. The grape harvest began on September 21st and ended on October 8th.
The Grand Vin of the property, the Chateau Haut-Batailley 2018 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (59%) and Merlot (41%). The vintage was aged for 14 months in French oak barrels (60% new oak).
At the tasting, the Chateau Haut-Batailley 2018 offers an opulent palate, with a great tannic richness and superb concentration, the true imprint of Merlot. The freshness of this vintage highlights the beautiful personality of Cabernet Sauvignon, fully revealed by this exceptional 2018 vintage. A great Pauillac grand vin signed by Chateau Haut-Batailley.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
Blended of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Merlot aging in 60% new barriques, the 2018 Haut Batailley is very deep purple-black in color and takes some coaxing to reveal profound notes of dark chocolate, crème de cassis, blueberry pie and anise with waves of raspberry pie, lavender and Indian spices. Full, very tightly would and jam-packed with layers of crunchy black and blue fruits, it has a firm line of ripe, grainy tannins and compelling freshness, finishing long with a mineral hint coming through.
