Description
The structure and elegance of a Pauillac red wine
The property
The Libéral family managed the Château Haut-Bages Libéral from the beginning of the 18th century. Over time, these connoisseurs have gathered the best terroirs of Pauillac. Today, this grand cru of Pauillac is owned by the Villars family since 1983, who have restored the Château Haut-Bages Libéral to its former glory, by undertaking a complete overhaul of the winemaking tool and directing its vineyard management towards sustainable viticulture.
The vineyard
Certified since 2019 in organic farming, Château Haut-Bages Libéral is in the process of converting to biodynamics. The 30 hectares of this Pauillac vineyard are cultivated on günzian Garonne gravels on a clay-limestone substrate.
Vinification and aging
Vinification is carried out on a parcel-by-parcel and tailor-made basis, accompanied by pump-overs and vertical pressing. The aging process lasts 16 months and is carried out 40% in new barrels, 40% in barrels of one wine and 20% in amphorae.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (78%) and merlot (22%).
