Description
An ample and delicate Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion
The estate
Château Grand Mayne stands like a true vessel amid a sea of vines at the heart of Saint-Émilion. Built in the 15th century, it did not take on its winegrowing role until the 17th century, when the Laveau family guided the vineyard and the estate to their peak in the 18th century. In 1934, the Nony family took over the estate and undertook major renovation works. Today, the Nony family, still at the helm of Château Grand Mayne, continues to uphold this member of Bordeaux's wine elite.
The vineyard
Château Grand Mayne 2023 is a Saint-Émilion wine produced from a vineyard where 30-year-old vines are planted on a clay-limestone hillside and at the foot of a clay hillside.
The vintage
A classic spring gave way to a rainy June, which brought significant mildew pressure that had little impact on the vineyard thanks to the diligence of the teams. Historically hot, August was punctuated by welcome rains. Despite these conditions, the grapes, harvested between September 11 and October 5, were perfectly balanced, elegant, and beautifully concentrated.
Vinification and aging
Gentle vinification and fermentation. Fermentation takes place 60% in new barrels and 40% in vats. Aging in barrels (60% new and 40% one-wine and two-wine barrels).
Blend
This Château Grand Mayne 2023 is the result of a blend of Merlot (75%) and Cabernet Franc (25%).
