Decanter

The second commercial vintage since LVMH took over the estate following considerable work in the vineyards. Even taking into account that 2022 was a hotter, drier vintage, this rosé is more structured and concentrated than the 2021. Creamy brioche, yellow peach and white chocolate aromas from lees ageing and a small amount of oak launch the rich fruit. On the palate, sweet ripe strawberries and red currants peep around the edges of the white peach fruit, while violets, menthol and garrigue open out around a dark mineral core and saline austerity on the finish. Smooth and silky with lots of depth and concentration. Classic, fresh Provence.

Jancis Robinson

Jancis Robinson

Magnum made of recycled dark amber glass to a special design. In conversion to organic viticulture. LVMH's first acquisition (of three) in the Provençal rosé category. From a site near Hyères very close to this coast. See Tam's recent note on the 2023 in bottle which gives a lot of background. The wine is very pale amber with masses of aroma and flavour – very much a cut above the norm. Chock-full of briny flavour and tropical fruit. Not sure I can see Tam's papaya (papaya never seems to have a very strong flavour to me) but it has broad fruit and a certain grip on the palate. Definitely a win for LVMH. The acidity tastes relatively low but there's a lovely bitterness on the end that recalls kumquat to me. Definitely worth a high score. And this may well age delightfully. (JR)

Terre de Vins

Presented in its very beautiful engraved bottle, the 2022 was refined with only 30% of the blend of grenache, tibouren, syrah, rolle (with a bit of cinsault and sémillon) aged in demi-muids (versus 40% in 2021). The result is greater freshness for this mineral rosé, with white fruit notes and a pastry-like nuance.

Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Galoupet 2022

Tasting

Nose
Complex, the nose combines intense fragrances of white fruits (peach), citrus and bitter almonds with subtle floral notes.

Palate
The palate seduces with its roundness and structure. Persistent, the finish exhales a rare minerality reminiscent of the Mediterranean sea breeze blowing over the vineyard.

Food and wine pairings

Ideal as an aperitif, this rosé wine harmoniously pairs with many dishes such as a spicy fish tartare, poultry in sauce and its grilled vegetables or even a fruit tart and its walnut shards.

A mineral and intense rosé from Côtes de Provence

The property

Promoted to Cru Classé de Provence in 1955, the Château Galoupet was acquired in 2019 by Moët Hennessy, the Wines & Spirits division of the LVMH group, with the ambition to restore the nobility of these unique terroirs.

The vineyard

Château Galoupet oversees a terroir of 77 hectares of classified woods and 69 hectares of vineyards in organic conversion since August 2020. The estate's terroir consists of 41 individually vinified plots. Following the acquisition of the estate, Moët Hennessy instigates a comprehensive study of the soils (lasting 3 years), the application of rigorous care throughout the vineyard as well as the modernization of winemaking tools, in order to produce a great wine from Côtes de Provence

The wine

Château Galoupet 2022 is the perfect expression of both the richness of the great Provençal vineyards and the environmental commitment of the LVMH group.

Produced exclusively from the estate's vineyards, conducted in an environmentally respectful approach, this wine is unveiled in innovative packaging, namely an 80% recyclable amber glass bottle that is very light.

Vinification and aging

Gentle pressing to protect the grapes from oxidation while preserving the aromatic purity of the fruit. Vinification 30% of the wines in 600L French oak demi-muids (62% new and 38% one year old) and aged on fine lees for 3 to 4 months. Vinification and aging in barrels for the other batches.

Blend

Grenache (49%)
Syrah (15%)
Tibouren (15%)
Rolle (12%)
Cinsault (7%)
Mourvèdre, cabernet, sémillon (2%).
