Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou 2018

 A case of 6 Bottles (750ML)

The freshness and power of a fruit-forward Saint-Julien

A "shocking" vintage. These are the terms used by Bruno-Eugene Borie to describe the 2018 vintage at the prestigious Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou. 2018 was shocking because of the new standard that it represents, similar to the great vintages of 1945 or 1961 before it, but also because of the emotions it brings to the tasting.

After a rainy and difficult spring, the beautiful summer settled with plenty of radiant sunshine, which persisted until the date of the harvest. The harvest gave rise to an exceptional vintage. Through a long vegetative cycle, the grapes were able to reach a perfect level of ripeness, presenting a small size, thick skins and beautifully ripe pips.

The Grand Vin of the estate, the Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou 2018 rewards the work of the technical teams. Blending Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) and Merlot (15%), the Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou 2018 offers a magnificent expression of the great terroir of Saint-Julien on the left bank of Bordeaux.

At the tasting, the Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou 2018 presents an intense, dark red and purple color. The aromatic bouquet is dazzling, springing from the glass to reveal notes of black fruits, punctuated by delicate floral fragrances, especially violet. Swirling the glass reveals beautifully mineral graphite notes. The palate is sumptuous, captivating with its voluminous texture and presenting great class, along with a perfect structure of refined and polished tannins. The tasty palate is enhanced by juicy fruit and a great freshness. Balanced by a crisp acidity, the wine persists for a long time until the finish. A true masterpiece, the Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou 2018 is in line with the most exceptional vintages, which will undoubtedly mark the history of the estate. A vintage surely made to survive the decades ahead of it.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2018 Ducru-Beaucaillou is composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, to be aged 18 months in 100% new barriques. It has a pH of 3.7, 14.5% alcohol and an IPT (total polyphenol index) of 95. Very deep purple-black in color, it prances out of the glass with flamboyant, showy scents of cinnamon stick, wilted roses, star anise, fallen leaves and Ceylon tea with a core of blackcurrant cordial, black cherry compote, violets, chocolate mint and espresso plus a waft of crushed rocks. Full-bodied, opulent and decadently fruited with layer upon layer of black/blue fruit and floral nuances, it has an exquisitely ripe, fine-grained frame and fantastic freshness supporting the multifaceted, beguiling fruit, finishing with tons of fragrant flowers and mineral sparks. At once beautifully elegant and wonderfully bold. About 7,000 cases of the grand vin will be produced, really focusing on the area around the estate.
