Vinum

Complex, still slightly marked by oak, subtle roasted notes over candied fruits, with lavender honey; rich on the palate, two mouthfuls of wine, great aromatic complexity, excellent length, built for a small eternity.

Decanter

Intense gold colour in appearance. The nose is not overly aromatic, with subtle floral hints of camomile. Juicy and powerful on the palate, round and creamy, but lacks freshness with a slightly heavy, cloying weight. Moderate acidity provides some balance, though the bitter finish detracts slightly. A bold, opulent style that could benefit from more vibrancy. 138g/l residual sugar.

Honeyed, tropical fruits, vanilla, spices, tangerine, and candied white peaches set the stage here. Ripe, sugary, and fresh, with ample, sweet, ripe, tropical fruits coated with honey on the palate, and in the finish are on display here. Drink from 2027-2040. 91-93 Pts

Le Figaro Vin

Bitter orange peel, cardamom, turmeric and chamomile—the bouquet’s complexity is matched only by its freshness. Round and liqueur-like, the palate is opulent, with a silky texture echoing notes of ripe yellow fruits, vineyard peach and dried pineapple. The finish lacks tension.

Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château de Rayne Vigneau 2024

Tasting

Nose
The nose, bright and refined, opens up to delicate spicy notes, accompanied by seductive scents of white peach, ripe apricot, and mandarin.

Palate
Elegance asserts itself from the first sip. Ginger reveals subtle and refined nuances, supported by a vibrant intensity and beautiful complexity, a true reflection of the Rayne Vigneau terroir. The silky texture at the beginning gradually gives way to tender bitters that extend the pleasure of tasting to a finish of unsuspected length.

A Premier Grand Cru Classé from Sauternes imbued with freshness and minerality

The property

Founded in the early 17th century by Gabriel de Vigneau, the Château de Rayne Vigneau is a prestigious estate in Bordeaux, located in Bommes in the Sauternes appellation. Currently managed by Vincent Labergère, with Henri Boyer as a consultant, the estate is recognized for its reasoned viticultural practices, certified HVE level 3 and vegan. Classified Premier Grand Cru in 1855, it produces wines of great freshness and minerality.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château de Rayne Vigneau extends over 84 hectares in the Sauternes appellation. It presents a great diversity of soils, mainly composed of clays on a limestone plateau with asterias and clayey gravels. This mosaic of terroirs gives the wines their characteristic complexity. The vines, averaging 40 years old, benefit from reasoned cultivation adapted to each plot, respecting environmental balances.

Vinification and aging

The 2024 harvest began on October 12 with successive sorting, a traditional method in Sauternes that allows only grapes affected by noble rot to be harvested at the optimal moment of their concentration. The particularly low yield of 10 hl/ha testifies to a rigorous selection of berries, guaranteeing exceptional concentration. Traditional vinification in oak barrels, including 30% new barrels. This method allows to bring structure and complexity to the wine while preserving the delicate aromas of botrytized grapes. The aging continues for 18 months in barrels, during which the wine develops its aromatic richness and characteristic creamy texture.

Blend
72% sémillon, providing creaminess and structure, complemented by 28% sauvignon blanc which brings freshness and aromatic vivacity.
