Château de Fargues is a completely different property in Sauternes. Although the property did not produce sweet white wine at the time of the 1855 classification (the red vines were replaced by white vines at the beginning of the last century), this magnificent property has all the makings of a Premier Cru Classé. And for good reason, the Lur Saluces family, the historical owners of Château de Fargues, gave its credentials to Château d'Yquem before selling it more recently to the luxury giant LVMH. Thus, at Château de Fargues, we find the culture of excellence that is so dear to Château d'Yquem and only vintages that meet the property's high standards are released in bottles.
The year 2005 was marked by a 40% water deficit compared to normal and by temperatures that were regularly about 2°C above normal. The qualitative and homogeneous flowering at the beginning of June preceded a hot and dry summer, but without reaching extremes. The rapid development of the awaited botrytisation following the rainy spells at the beginning of September was slowed down by a cold and windy climate that persisted until the end of that same month, marked by the return of a favourable climate. The harvest was carried out by successive selections, resulting in powerful and fresh musts during the vinification process. Rich and concentrated, 2005 resonates with the 2003, 2001, 1990 and 1989 vintages.

Racy and expressive, this wine blends both fresh and greedy fragrances of flowers, lime blossom and candied fruit with notes of honey, fresh prune, quince paste, almond and orange zest.
Ample and generous, the palate harmoniously combines freshness and acidity. During the tasting, the palate reveals multiple aromas (candied fruit, apricot, nougat, toffee, brioche, confectionery) enhanced by notes of beeswax and pepper which give the wine a great deal of tension. With an exceptional length, this Château de Fargues 2005 seduces by its elegance, its purity and its concentration.
