The estate

Château Couhins emerged from the annals of history in the 18th century. This property originally brought together two former Graves wine estates. As an integral part of the INRA (Institut National de Recherche Agronomique) network, Château Couhins puts its know-how and its vineyard at the service of viticultural research and innovation.

The vineyard

Château Couhins blanc 2022 is a Pessac-Léognan wine that stems from an 8-hectare vineyard planted in the vicinity of the commune of Villenave d'Ornon, at the gates of Bordeaux.  The vines are planted on a mosaic of terroirs consisting of a clay-limestone hilltop and a sandy-clay plateau. Here, Sauvignon Blanc is king and takes up 90% of the vineyard. The rest of the vines are Sauvignon Gris. To preserve this precious terroir, the estate uses environmentally-concious viticulture.

The wine

2022 marks the first use of new techniques for managing frosty plots and protecting plants from climatic stress, as well as the first year of organic farming certification.

As part of its ongoing commitment to quality and respect for the environment, Château Couhins is unveiling a new label for the 2022 vintage, designed and printed in an environmentally-friendly way, as demonstrated by the choice of recycled paper.

Winemaking and ageing

A pneumatic cold pressing under inert gas is carried out on whole grapes, followed by a sustained settling. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels. Aged for 9 months in barrels on lees with regular stirring of the lees.
