Description
A very enjoyable red wine from Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux
Chateau Cap de Faugeres is one of the vineyard estates of Silvio Denz, one of the most dynamic Bordeaux winegrowers in recent years. Situated in the small appellation of Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux, known especially for the quality/price ratio of its wines, the Chateau Cap de Faugeres estate includes a vineyard of 46 hectares, planted in a beautiful clay-limestone soil, along the Saint-Emilion plateau, east of Bordeaux.
Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux did not escape the exceptional climatic contrasts of 2018. Following the first six very wet months, characterized by great mildew pressure, the most seasoned winemakers tried to make the most of the situated and were greeted by warm, sunny and very dry summer! The months of July, August, September, and even early October were so exceptional that the previous mildew pressure stress dissipated completely before the harvest. Michel Rolland, winemaking consultant for Chateau Cap de Faugeres, speaks of the 2018 vintage as being "the best of all".
Blending 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the Chateau Cap de Faugeres 2018 is matured for 12 months with 40% in French oak barrels of one or two previous wines. Thanks to the homogeneity of the harvests and an exceptional ripeness achieved, the 2018 vintage of Chateau Cap de Faugeres offers plenty of fresh fruit. This is a very enjoyable wine, with aromas of black fruits and spices, upon a powerful tannic frame. This is perhaps the greatest success of the property so far!
