Description
The character of a Pessac-Léognan white wine
The estate
Located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château Baret has historic origins. The foundations of the estate date back to the 4th century. For several generations, Château Baret belonged to the Lords of Baret. In 1867, the Ballande family of merchants and shipowners acquired the estate. Over the last twenty years, Château Baret has undergone major renovations and restructuring in both the vineyard and the cellar. From vintage to vintage and following the arrival of a new team in 2015, this historic estate stands out among the finest references in the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
The vineyard
Château Baret is a Pessac-Léognan wine from a 25.80 hectare vineyard located in the commune of Villenave d'Ornon, east of Bordeaux. The vines are on average 25 years old and are planted on Garonne gravel and clay-limestone subsoil. 21.70 hectares are dedicated to the production of red wines and 4.10 hectares are dedicated to white wines.
Winemaking and ageing
Following manual harvesting from 16 to 19 August, the grapes underwent skin maceration and fermentation in wooden vats. The wine was aged for 12 months on the lees, with stirring twice a week, for a period of 2 months.
Grape variety
Château Baret 2022 is 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
