Description
The estate
Located in the beautiful Colchaga Valley, Clos Apalta by Casa Lapostolle has become one of the most famous estates in Chile. Clos Apalta's microclimate, along with its age-old know-how, contribute to the making of these exceptional wines.
The vineyard
Poised on an exceptional terroir, the vineyard spreads over 60 hectares of vines, some of which are over 80 years old. Casa Lapostolle's Clos Apalta is a Central Valley wine renowned for its refined and aromatic style.
The vintage
The flowering and fruit-set phases started with a slight delay and thus the 2016 vintage is marked by the offsetting of the vine’s growing cycle. However, the warm conditions throughout the summer months led to the production of fine and healthy grapes.
Vinification and aging
The Merlot grapes were harvested between March 10th and April 7th and the Cabernet grapes were picked between March 18th and April 11th. The Carmenere grapes were picked from April 12th. By carrying out thinning and leaf stripping and thanks to the use of biodynamic practices, the grapes harvested were perfectly healthy and showcase a fine quality. The juice is macerated for 4 to 5 weeks with manual punching down. Fermentation is carried out in French oak vats and new French oak barrels. The wine is aged for 24 months in French oak barrels (100% new).
The blend
