Casa Lapostolle: A Chilean estate imbued with French know-how
The Lapostolle family boast an age-old winemaking history, starting with the founding father, Jean-Baptiste Lapostolle, who founded his first distillery in 1827 and set the ball rolling for his succeeding generations. Indeed, they are the founders of the liqueur brand Grand Marnier, which has since been acquired by the Campari group.
In 1994, Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband, Cyril de Bournet, were taken aback by the breathtakingly beautiful landscape of the Apalta Valley in Chile. By allying their French winemaking expertise and the infinite potential of the Apalta Valley, Casa Lapostolle produces exquisite Chilean wines. The illustrious oenologist and consultant, Michel Rolland, works exclusively with Casa Lapostolle in Chile.
The finest Chilean terroirs planted with French varieties
The Lapostolle family owns three different vineyards in Chile, reigning over a total of 370 hectares of vines. The three vineyards are: Atalayas Vineyard in Casablanca Valley, Las Kuras Vineyard in the Cachapoal Valley, and the Alta Vineyard in Colchagua Valley. The Lapostolle family craft wines using the Carmenere, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc.
The estate's oldest vines, over 100-year-old vines originally imported from France, are rooted in the Apalta vineyard and enjoy a south-east facing exposure, which is rather rare in the Colchogua Valley. The unique Chilean climate leads to the production of perfectly ripe grapes. The temperature variations between rainy winters and warm summers are ideal.
Carmenere, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon all thrive in these hilly lands and give rise to sublime and iconic red wines that are on a par with the finest Bordeaux wine references. The bold identity of these Chilean wines has contributed to their worldwide success. Casa Lapostolle's objective is to utilize the superb terroir of Chile, and French expertise, to craft world-class red wines.
