The freshness and elegance of a great Pauillac white wine

A superb expression of the great terroirs of Pauillac, the Aile D'Argent is the white grand vin of the prestigious Premier Grand Cru Classe Chateau Mouton Rothschild and the 2018 vintage is in line with the most beautiful references of the Bordeaux Blancs Secs appellation of Bordeaux.

Produced in very limited quantities, the Chateau Mouton Rothschild Aile D’Argent is an important symbol. It was Philippine de Rothschild who replanted the estate vineyards with a few acres of white grapes in the early 80s, in order to revive the tradition of the Medoc white grand vin.

A year marked by strong climatic contrasts, with heavy rainfall in the first half, the vintage required all the efforts and know-how of the technical teams of Chateau Mouton Rothschild. A beautiful summer arrived in July, foreshadowing the birth of a great vintage. At Chateau Mouton Rothschild, the white grape harvest lasted from August 30 to September 5.

A blend of Sauvignon Blanc (55%) and Semillon (45%), the Aile D’Argent 2018 from Chateau Mouton Rothschild reveals a bright yellow color, with shimmering green highlights. Intensely expressive and complex, the aromatic bouquet opens on citrus and notes of stone fruits (peach), while a beautiful minerality appears next. On the palate, the wine offers a superbly dense texture, evolving great smoothness. Delicate and gourmand notes of exotic fruit interspersed with spice notes – fresh ginger and white pepper - succeed each other, while the minerality of the terroir is expressed in hints of flint. With great freshness and elegance, the palate extends into a beautifully long finish. A great Pauillac white wine signed by Chateau Mouton Rothschild.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
There was no malolactic fermentation and no Muscadelle this year--both unusual for Aile d'Argent. Composed of 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Sémillon (harvested August 30 to September 5), the 2018 Aile d'Argent has 13% alcohol and is a little reticent to begin, offering fragrant notions of lemongrass, freshly chopped ginger and lemon tart with a core of fresh pineapples, white peaches and aniseed. The palate is rich, sultry and exotic with loads of spices and tropical fruit and an electric backbone of acid, finishing very long.
