A Saint-Estèphe red wine reflecting the identity of Château de Pez
The Estate
Château de Pez was founded in 1452 in Saint-Estèphe, within the Médoc region of Bordeaux, making it one of the oldest estates of the appellation. Since 1995, the property has been owned by Champagne Louis Roederer, part of the esteemed "Roederer Collection." The estate's vineyard spans 42 hectares on a single stretch of gravel plateau over clay-limestone subsoil. Classified Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2003, Château de Pez is known for its precise winemaking and strong sense of place within the Médoc.
The Vineyard
The vineyard from which this wine originates lies within the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on a plateau of gravel soils resting on a clay-limestone subsoil, benefiting from a favorable exposure and the moderating influence of the nearby Gironde estuary. The vines are tended through sustainable viticulture, certified HVE level 3, reflecting the estate's commitment to environmentally responsible practices.
The Vintage
The 2023 growing season was marked by a cool, rainy spring and summer between June and August, despite ultimately ranking among the driest years in recent history. Excellent harvest conditions prevailed from September 7 to September 28, 2023, allowing each parcel to be picked at optimal technological and phenolic ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
This 2nd Pez 2023 was crafted using the same meticulous, parcel-by-parcel approach applied across the estate, with fermentation carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel and wooden vats to preserve the distinct character of each plot.
Grape Varieties
This 2nd Pez is composed of 64% merlot, 31% cabernet sauvignon, and 5% petit verdot.
