A Rare White Gem from Familia Torres
Established in the year 1870 by the brothers
Jaime Torres Vendrell and
Miguel Torres Vendrell, Torres wine has transformed into the most recognized Spanish wine brand, a vast empire of vines built on winemaking excellence. Today, the family's 5th generation runs
3,200 acres of estate vineyards, spread over Spain's top DO and DOC appellations, as well as Chile, China and California. The
"Forcada" bottling of
Familia Torres is a rare gem, a brilliant expression of Penedes in white. This wine is made exclusively with Forcada, an ancestral grape variety of
Catalonia,
Spain, believed to have completely disappeared during the phylloxera epidemic. This grape, along with many other native varieties were rescued and reintroduced as a result of the pioneering work of Miguel A. Torres in the 1980's. Today, this grape is planted in deep, reddish calcareous clay soils with great water retention in the Alts d'Ancosa area of the
DO Penedes appellation. This rare Penedes white wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged 40% in new oak for 3 months, 40% in used oak for 3 months and 20% in concrete tanks for 3 months.
The
2016 vintage in Penedes saw relatively normal temeratures and precipation levels.
The
Forcada 2016 by
Familia Torres reveals a surprising freshness and impressive intensity on the nose. This white Penedes wine offers beautiful floral fragrances, along with notes of freshly-cut grass and sun-dried Mediterranean herbs. It will pair beautifully to a wide range of dishes, especially dry cheeses and grilled vegetables. A wine to enjoy with food year-round.
