The estate
Founded in 2002 by Marco de Grazia on the northern slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, Tenuta delle Terre Nere has established itself as a pioneer of the region's viticultural renaissance. The estate, today managed by Marco and his son Sebastian de Grazia, cultivates around 27 hectares, distributed across 24 parcels between 600 and 1000 meters in altitude. Certified organic since 2010 and farmed biodynamically, it values old vines ranging from 50 to 140 years of age, some of which are ungrafted. The volcanic soils impart a distinct minerality and remarkable freshness to the wines, elegantly expressing the indigenous grape varieties Carricante, Nerello Mascalese, and Nerello Cappuccio.
The vineyard
The vines of the Etna Bianco are located in the municipalities of Randazzo, Castiglione di Sicilia, Biancavilla, and Milo in the province of Catania, on Mount Etna in Sicily. The vineyard extends mainly on the northern side of the volcano, between 600 and 900 meters in altitude. The soils of volcanic origin give the wine its distinctive mineral signature. The 5 to 80-year-old vines are trained using the Goblet (Alberello) and modified Goblet systems. The grapes come from all the estate's plots as well as partially from partner winegrowers.
Winemaking and aging
The Etna Bianco 2024 is produced using a fruit-preserving method. The grapes are gently pressed, followed by fermentation at low temperature in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and aromas.
