Cloudy Bay, the iconic expression of New Zealand
New World wines and a beaming reputation
The Cloudy Bay estate was founded in 1985 by David Hohnen in the iconic wine region of Marlborough in New Zealand. Overlooking the breathtakingly beautiful landscape and nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Richmond Range, Cloudy Bay is located at the entrance to the eponymous bay. The luxury goods group, LVMH, was seduced by the excellent and consistent quality of Cloudy Bay. Thus, Cloudy Bay joined the LVMH family in 2010.
The diversity of New Zealand's South Island
This avant-garde estate was one of the first wineries to be established in the Marlborough terroir. The Cloudy Bay estate now covers 310 hectares of vines. The vineyard is resolutely committed to protecting the environment by implementing nature-minded practices, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. In the space of three decades, Cloudy Bay has established itself as a benchmark for New World wines.
Cloudy Bay in Marlborough
Cloudy Bay reigns over 163 plots in the Marlborough region of southern New Zealand. Rooted near the Wairau River, the vines enjoy the cooling influence of the river and rest in stony, well-draining soils. These conditions are perfect and conducive to the growth of the Sauvignon Blanc vines. The alliance between the well-draining soils and the unique maritime climate of Marlborough gives rise to utterly captivating, mesmerizing wines that boast an intense, expressive and fresh expression.
Surrounded by the Richmond Ranges, featured on the label of the wines, the estate is situated in a tranquil and peaceful area. "We are custodians of the land. Our job as farmers is to pass the land to the next generation in a better state than we received it." - Jim White, Technical Director, Cloudy Bay
Vibrant Sauvignon Blancs
While Sauvignon Blanc is the flagship grape variety that has built Cloudy Bay's reputation around the world, the estate also grows Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Produced with the utmost respect for the terroir and its surrounding biodiversity, each Cloudy Bay wine captures the distinctive expression of New Zealand's Marlborough terroir.
The Sauvignon Blanc wines of Cloudy Bay are multi-faceted indeed. The mouth-watering wines exude aromas of tropical and citrus fruit. These New Zealand white wines pair beautifully with seafood and oysters.
