Established in 1844 by Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary, the Penfolds estate has become a leading wine producer in Australia, with a great international reputation for its powerful red wines. The estate today produces a range of multi-vineyard and multi-region blends, as well as single-varietal wines aged in American or French oak.
The California Collection
The Penfolds "California Collection" is a project 20 years in the making, harking back to the time when Penfolds winemakers first imported heritage vine cuttings from South Australia to plant in the sunny vineyards of California. The four wines comprising this collection are true "citizens of the world," unrestricted by geographical borders and representing the concept of multiregional winemaking. Based on fruit from Napa Valley grown on originally Australian vine cuttings, some of these wines also include fruit from Australia.
The Penfolds Bin 704 Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is the debut vintage of a wine made with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. This bottling aims to redefine Napa Cab through the lens of Penfolds and is named after the "mirror image" of its Australian Bin 407 stablemate, another Penfolds classic focused on varietal expression.
Vinification and Aging
This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine is produced exclusively with fruit from Napa Valley. It ages for a period of 16 months in French oak (of which around 40% is new and 60% is one year old).

On the nose:
The bouquet of this Napa Valley Cabernet by Penfolds reveals at its core delicious aromas of glazed cherries and dark chocolate, accented by savory nuances of seared beef, wild thyme and fresh black pepper. Oak aging lends a touch of finesse but does not take away from the undenibaly fruit-forward character of the wine.
On the palate:
This Penfolds Bin 704 Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 offers a palate consistent with its fruit-forward nose, revealing luscious flavors of macerated black fruit and dark chocolate. Its mouthfeel is incredibly sleek, supple and silk-like, with smooth tannins complemented by a lively acidity.
