The Estate
Founded in 1984 in Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, the Olivier Leflaive house was built by Olivier Leflaive himself, who remains at the helm of the business today. Combining estate vines with grapes sourced from partner growers, the house has built its reputation primarily on Chardonnay, while also vinifying wines from Pinot Noir and Aligoté across a wide range of Burgundian appellations. This Chassagne-Montrachet Village 2024 reflects that long-standing focus on precise, terroir-driven white winemaking.

The Vineyard
The white Chassagne-Montrachet cuvée draws on plots in several traditional lieux-dits of the appellation, including Houillères and Pierres, and may be complemented, depending on the vintage, by grapes from sites such as Charrières, Blanchot Dessous, Morichots, La Bergerie, Les Mazures, and Voillenots. These parcels sit at altitudes of around 250 to 300 meters on clay-limestone or clay-silt soils typical of the appellation, where the terroir shifts gradually from the deeper, clay-rich ground near Santenay to the lighter, stonier ground closer to Puligny-Montrachet.

The Vintage
The 2024 growing season in Burgundy was marked by abundant rainfall, below-average sunshine, and significant disease pressure throughout the year, all of which weighed on overall yields. Despite these challenges, the most carefully managed vineyards produced grapes of promising quality, with white wines in particular showing good balance between freshness and ripeness.

Winemaking and aging
For the Chassagne-Montrachet Village 2024, the grapes are gently pressed before undergoing both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. The wine is then aged in barrel, in line with the house's established approach to its Chassagne-Montrachet whites, allowing the Chardonnay fruit to develop depth while preserving the freshness characteristic of the appellation.
