Description
Taste the History in this South African Cinsault
Natte Valleij is a historic farm sitting on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain in South Africa. Just a 30 minute drive from Cape Town, this estate is equipped with old wine cellars, brandy stills, picturesque gardens and a gorgeous homestead. In 1715, the estate was granted to an ex German solider and has been passed down through four other owners, however the historical charm has never left the farmstead. In 1969, the Milner family purchased the land to breed thoroughbred horses, however in 2005 the horses were retired and wine was made yet again.
Natte Valleij started producing wines and revitalized the beautiful Cinsault. This heat loving grape is perfect for the warm South African growing season. Today, Cinsault is a rather obscure, but it is famed for being crossed with Pinot Noir to make the beloved Pinotage grape of South Africa. This Natte Valleij Cinsault wine is bursting with notes of strawberry, raspberry with a hint of black pepper and licorice. On the palate it is truly a beauty. Plenty of red fruit and soft easy tannins make you want to come back for several glasses. This wine is so approachable which makes it easy to drink, but it has really stunning, yet subtle notes of complexity and character that won’t leave you bored.
