Description
A complex and delicate fine Douro wine
The estate
Produced since 2008 and guided by Luis Sottomayor, Legado is a fine Portuguese wine that pays tribute to Fernando Guedes, the son of Fernando van Zeller Guedes, who founded the family-owned wine company Sogrape in 1942.
Technical Director of the group from 1956 and at the helm of the company until 2000, Fernando Guedes was a passionate man, whose goal was to produce great Portuguese wines that authentically express the identity of their terroir of origin.
The vineyard
Legado is a Duriense wine that stems from a plot of land called "Vinha Velha". This 8-hectare terraced vineyard is located at the Quinta do Caedo estate, acquired by Sogrape in 1990 and situated in Ervedosa do Douro.
The vintage
Although the beginning of winter was dry and mild, the end-of-season and springtime were marked by heavy rainfall and cool temperatures. These conditions led to a strong disease pressure, which impacted the flowering period. The temperature variations between sunny days and cool nights throughout a particularly mild summer helped to refine the ripening process.
Vinification and aging
The hand-picked grapes are sorted in the vineyard and upon arrival at the winery, before undergoing destemming and gentle crushing. Vinification in stainless steel vats. Long and gentle maceration. The wine is aged for around 30 months in oak barrels.

Color
This wine showcases an intense ruby color.
Nose
Complex, the nose blends floral (heather, truffle, undergrowth) and fruity (red fruit) fragrances with stony and slightly woody notes.
Palate
The ample palate seduces with its spicy structure, its delicate salinity as well as its red fruit aromas that weave into a persistent and elegant finish.
Cellaring
This Douro wine can be kept in the cellar until 2041, enabling it to reveal all of its aromatic richness.
Service
For an optimal tasting experience, decant the wine before serving it at 16-18ºC.
