Description
The estate
Situated south of Bordeaux, in Pessac, Chateau Pape Clement is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux. The chateau takes its name from Pope Clement V who developed the wine-growing activity of the property in the 13th century. Chateau Pape Clement produces wines whose reputation has been established for more than seven centuries. Owned by Bernard Magrez, Chateau Pape Clement stands out among the greatest estates of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
The vineyard dedicated to the production of the Le Prelat de Pape Clement red 2019 extends over 23.5 hectares, in the municipalities of Cerons, Illats and Podensac. The vines, which are 30 years old on average, are planted in deep gravel soils upon on limestone strata. The vineyard has earned the Terra Vitis and HVE 3 labels (High Environmental Value level 3) as well as an SME certification.
The winemaking
Stainless steel tanks. Vinification done in a traditional way in thermoregulated vats with vatting from 25 to 28 days.
The aging
14 months (50% new barrels and 50% barrels of one previous wine).
The blend
45% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% cabernet franc.
