The estate
Established in the Pessac-Leognan appellation since the 13th century, Chateau Pape Clement is an iconic Cru Classe and one of the greatest fine wines of Bordeaux. The Clementin de Pape Clement Red is the second red wine of the estate.
The vineyard
The 65.5-hectare vineyard of Chateau Pape Clement is planted in soils made of gravelly clay from the Pliocene and Quaternary period. The vineyard is managed with a micro-plot approach and sustainable agriculture. The property is also certified High Environmental Value level 3.
The winemaking
Manual harvest, sorting in the vineyard. Filled into stainless steel / concrete tanks from 25 to 90 hl by gravity. Pre-fermentation maceration at a low temperature 8 ° C. Fully manual punching down. 30 day maceration. Direct flow into barrels by gravity. Malolactic fermentation in barrels and vats.
The aging
16 months of aging in barrels.
The blend
Merlot (65%), cabernet sauvignon (35%).
