The precision of a structured and elegant red grand vin from Pessac-Leognan
The second wine of the prestigious Grand Cru Classe de Graves - Chateau Malartic-Lagravière - La Reserve de Malartic 2018 offers the expression of a great red wine from Pessac-Leognan in a very beautiful vintage for Bordeaux.
A vintage of climatic contrasts, 2018 was characterized by two very different phases. After a wet and hot spring, the mildew pressure was strong in the vineyard. Then, in July, the summer sun settled, shining bright until the date of the harvest with ideal climatic conditions helping express the personality of each grape variety.
Upon arrival at the cellar, the results were breathtaking: Merlot and Cabernet grapes with a perfect maturity, great aromatic freshness and beautiful tannins.
A blend of Merlot (58%), Cabernet Sauvignon (35%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit-Verdot (2%), the La Reserve de Malartic 2018 rewarded the efforts of the estate’s technical teams. The vintage was aged for 15 months on average in French oak barrels.
At the tasting, the La Reserve Malartic 2018 from Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere offers an intense garnet red color with purple highlights. Intensely aromatic, the bouquet reveals notes of red fruits and cassis, along with blackberry and currant. Beautiful licorice and menthol notes appear as well as mineral notes, recalling the identity of the Graves terroir. On the palate, the wine displays a fruity and silky frame, very vivacious thanks to a beautiful tension. The mid-palate displays juicy and aromatic fruit, as well as a great freshness and a nice balance. A great red wine from Graves in a grand vintage.
