James Suckling

Very aromatic with sliced-mushroom, berry, and dark-bark aromas and flavors. Dark chocolate, too. Medium-bodied with integrated tannins and a savory finish. Structured, yet balanced second wine of Nenin. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. Drink after 2026.

90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample. Juicy and expressive with gourmand fruit and a meaty, savoury edge. Supple tannins give it early accessibility. Maintains freshness but there is a glow of alcohol on the finish. (JL)

Bright, fresh, juicy, lifted and fruity, the wine focuses on its core of lifted, sweet, ripe red fruits, savory herbs and flowers. Drink this with pleasure while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. 89-91 pts

Weinwisser

90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Deep purple with an opaque core and purple rim. Intense wild-berry bouquet with hints of lilac and violet behind. On the palate, a soft texture, finely sandy extract and a medium mid-palate. Aromatic finish with plenty of density and power, blue berries, cherry fruit and licorice. As good as ever! 10% amphorae are used.

Herbs, restrained, delicately vegetal bouquet, cherries, strawberries, herbs, smoke. A firm, medium-bodied palate with sweet fruit, medium aromatics, a slender structure, good tannins, and a fine finish. Can improve further. 16/20 2024 - 2036

Le Figaro Vin

A spicy, lively nose with red-fruit notes—vibrant and seductive. A wine whose palate mirrors the nose, revealing the same freshness, crunch, and acidity, yet already hinting at a fine potential for indulgent pleasure.

Deep violet colour, the fruit is kept in play by low temperature fermentation and careful extraction showcasing the seductive, silky aspect of Pomerol. Crayon and slate, set against berry fruits. Harvest September 10 (one week earlier than 2019). 20% new oak. A yield of 36hl/ha, around 25% lower than usual. 20% new oak, 3.63pH.

Description

The freshness and aromatic richness of a Second Wine from Pomerol

The estate

Owned by Domaines Delon, Château Nénin embodies, according to the Delon family, "the expression of a great age-worthy Pomerol." This 19th-century estate was acquired by the Delon family in 1997 and underwent significant restructuring, which has brought Château Nénin to the pinnacle of Pomerol today.

The vineyard

This Pomerol vineyard covers an area of 32 hectares. The vines are planted on a mosaic of terroirs composed of clay soils, siliceous gravel, quartz, granite, basalt pebbles, and iron-rich crasse.

The wine

Fugue de Nénin is the Second Wine of Château Nénin and was first produced in the 1997 vintage. Fugue contains a higher proportion of Merlot than its elder. As a result, it is more approachable while still expressing the identity of Pomerol and the estate. Its name, Fugue, is inspired by the world of music, as a fugue is a repetition of the main theme, which here is the Grand Vin Château Nénin. Fugue de Nénin is a hedonistic, gourmet, round, and silky wine that can be enjoyed earlier than the Grand Vin but offers a very high level of pleasure.

The vintage

2020 began with a wet and mild winter, followed by a spring with unstable weather conditions. While the combination of heavy rainfall and mild temperatures encouraged historically early growth, water reserves were sufficient, enabling the vineyard to face the summer conditions. The alternation of warm days and cool nights up to harvest ensured even ripening.

Blend

Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
