Description
An exceptional Syrah from the great terroirs of the Rhône Valley
The property
François Villard, an iconic winemaker of the Rhône Valley, established his property in 1989 in Condrieu. Today, he manages 40 hectares of vineyards, with a viticultural approach centered on organic farming and sustainable practices. His wines, primarily made from grape varieties such as viognier and syrah, are distinguished by their balance between opulence and elegance.
The vineyard
Le Gallet Blanc is a Côte-Rôtie wine from parcels located in the municipalities of Ampuis and Saint-Cyr-sur-Rhône, on renowned sites such as Le Plomb, Côté Bodin, Le Grand Taillis, Fontjean, Montlys, Servonnière and Le Mont. The vines, about 20 years old, are planted on decomposed quartzite shale soils. Facing south and southeast, these parcels benefit from optimal sunlight, promoting perfect maturity of the syrah.
Vinification and aging
The harvest is conducted manually with a rigorous selection of grapes. The vinification favors 80% whole bunches, enhancing the aromatic complexity and structure of the wine. Fermentation takes place over 13 days in open wooden and stainless steel vats. The aging extends over 18 months in barrels, including 15% new barrels, allowing a harmonious integration of the wood.
Grape variety
Le Gallet Blanc 2022 from François Villard is a 100% syrah.
