Description
The estate
Owned by the Bernard family since 1983, the magnificent Domaine de Chevalier is one of the greatest Classified Growths of Bordeaux. Like a secret garden, this iconic estate of the Pessac-Leognan appellation is located in a verdant setting south of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
Domaine de Chevalier boasts a rare vineyard comprising 45 hectares of red vines. The vineyard is planted in gravelly soil with clayey-gravelly subsoils.
The vintage
The 2019 vintage is showing great potential, thanks to the year's exceptional climatic conditions.
The winemaking and aging
Manual harvest in crates from September 23 to October 13, sorting in the vineyard, then on the table with optical sorting. Alcoholic fermentation in thermo-regulated vats. Manual punch-downs. Fermentation for 3 weeks then aging in barrels for 18 months, including 4 months on the lees.
The blend
Cabernet sauvignon (65%), merlot (30%), petit verdot (5%).
The tasting
The Domaine de Chevalier red 2019 reveals an intense, fresh and refined nose full of fruit. The aromas of black cherries, blackberries and blueberries dominate the bouquet. Dense and delicate on the palate, the Domaine de Chevalier red 2019 is characterized by a magnificent concentration and finesse. The flavors of ripe fruit are intense and very complex. It is a fresh wine overall, reflecting a wonderful balance and a perfect harmony.
